Digging out the old video gear

April 14th, 2014 No comments

I want to do a video of my next woodworking project and I realized I haven’t shot video with anything but a cell phone in years. I dug though all the old gear and cobbled together a setup that should work better with a tripod etc…

Mostly this video was just a test of equipment and seeing what kind of color correcting and resolution tinkering I would have to do if I used both video from the DVcam and my phone. After editing etc it looks like the best I can produce is widescreen 480p video out of that camera… nothing great but unless you are watching it on a huge monitor it’s decent enough. Guess I need to to keep an eye on ebay to see if I can grab a camera capable of more modern video formats.

Coming soon…. making a chef’s knife with a Hock blade.

DIY wooden iPhone Dock

Unfortunately my desk needs some rearranging to work with my new mobile lifestyle. I had to dump one of my monitors, and I need to make a stand to raise and angle my Air a bit, and maybe mount a few USB peripherals, we’ll see…

I haven’t had much time in the shop this summer as I’ve been building a coop for our ducks, managing a large garden and doing numerous outdoor things; but I had an itch to work with some hardwood so I decided to throw together a quick iPhone dock. I had some scrap Wenge and Cherry laying around so here is a quick gallery of the process. Read more…

My Systems

November 12th, 2009 Comments off

While demoing Snow Leopard during the recent geeksouth OS showdown, my Dell Mini 9 running OS X seemed to cause some interest. So, to answer any questions I’ll just give a rundown of my basic systems and their uses. (I’ll throw in some basic current prices in case anyone is interested in the budget to build their own.) All pricing comes from (or in the case of the laptops). Read more…
